A series of strong undersea earthquakes have struck the Solomon Islands since ten o’clock Thursday morning.

Thursday’s rainfall in some places in the Wellington region was the heaviest seen for more than 50 years, according to the regional council. The Porirua Stream carried the heaviest flows since 1980.
Intense rain across the Wellington region caused serious flooding in a number of areas today. The Tawa weather station recorded its wettest day in ten years.
