Strong Earthquake, Papua New Guinea

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Papua New Guinea this evening, Thursday 22nd November 2007. The quake, which struck at 9:49 p.m. New Zealand Standard time, was located off the coast of eastern New Guinea 100 km north of Lae (400 km north of Port Moresby) at a depth of 78 km.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a bulletin at 10:03 p.m. advising that a tsunami was not generated, based on historical data.
