Deep Quake Western N.I.

A moderately strong deep earthquake struck the western North Island this morning. The magnitude 5.0 quake was located 30 km east of Stratford in Taranaki at a depth of 220 km.

Early reports indicate the quake, which struck at 3:22 a.m. on Tuesday March 18th 2008, was felt at New Plymouth, in the Manawatu district and at several Wellington locations.
