Kermadec Quakes

A 4th magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands this afternoon. The quake follows a 5th magnitude event nearby on Monday morning.

The magnitude 4.9 quake, which struck at 2:09 p.m. on Wednesday the 5th of November 2008, was located 160 km west of L’Esperance Rock (335 km south-west of Raoul Island, 765 km north-east of Auckland) at a depth of 440 km.

A shallow magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the central part of the Kermadec Islands early on Monday morning. The quake was located 240 km north-east of L’Esperance Rock (115 km south-east of Raoul Island) at a depth of 45 km.
