Strong Kermadec Quake

A strong, deep earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands just after 2 o’clock this afternoon.

Geoscience Australia reports the earthquake, which struck at 2:04 p.m., as magnitude 6.2 at a depth of 60 km. It estimates that the event would have been felt up to 560 km from the epicentre.

The US Geological Survey reports the quake as magnitude 5.9, located 60 km north-east of Raoul Island (315 km north-north-east of L’Esperance Rock) at a depth of 58km.
