A moderately strong, shallow earthquake struck off the coast of Fiordland this morning.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Fiordland, 180 km west of Invercargill, 120 km west of Tuatapere, at 9:26 this morning. The undersea quake, centred 30 km west of Puysegur Point at a depth of 33km, was felt in Southland.
