Kermadec Quake

A light earthquake struck the southern Kermadec Islands this evening.

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck 120 km west of L’Esperance Rock (755 km north-east of Auckland) at 7:25 this evening. The quake was 380 km deep according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Geoscience Australia reports the quake as magnitude 5.0 at a depth of 450 km, noting that it would have been felt up to 160 km from the epicentre.
