A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the Fiordland region early this morning, Friday the 30th November 2007. The 4:53 a.m. quake was located in a sparsely populated area 50 km north-west of Te Anau, 70 km south-west of Milford Sound at a depth of 120 km.

Strong Earthquake, Solomon Islands
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007A strong earthquake shook the Solomon Islands early this morning, New Zealand time. The magnitude 6.6 quake struck at 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday 28th November 2007. It was located 70 km south-south-east of Kirakira, San Cristobal (295 km south-east of the capital Honiara, Guadalcanal) in the Solomon Islands at a depth of 42 km.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued bulletins for the Pacific and Hawaii at 1:02 a.m. advising that a Pacific-wide tsunami event was NOT expected from the undersea quake.
An initial report from Geoscience Australia puts the quake at magnitude 6.8 at the shallower depth of 30 km but at a similar location.

Monday, November 26th, 2007A moderately strong earthquake struck mid-way between the North Island and the Kermadec Islands this afternoon. The magnitude 5.0 quake, which struck at 3:24 p.m. on Monday 26th November 2007 (NZ Daylight Time), was located 550 km north-east of Gisborne (445 km south-south-east of L’Esperance Rock in the Kermadec Islands) at a depth of 35 km.

Strong Earthquake, Papua New Guinea
Thursday, November 22nd, 2007A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Papua New Guinea this evening, Thursday 22nd November 2007. The quake, which struck at 9:49 p.m. New Zealand Standard time, was located off the coast of eastern New Guinea 100 km north of Lae (400 km north of Port Moresby) at a depth of 78 km.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a bulletin at 10:03 p.m. advising that a tsunami was not generated, based on historical data.

Southern Kermadec Quake
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007Another moderately strong earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands late today. The latest event occurred in the southern part of the Kermadec group, 700 km north-east of Auckland, 425 km south of Raoul Island.
The magnitude 5.2 earthquake which struck at 9:09 p.m. on Wednesday 21st November 2007 was located 165 km south of L’Esperance Rock in the Kermadecs at a depth of 54 km.

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007A moderately strong earthquake struck near Raoul Island in the Kermadec Islands at 4:28 this morning, Wednesday 21st November 2007. The magnitude 5.8 quake was located 50 km south of Raoul Island (215 km north-north-east of L’Esperance Rock) at a depth of 58 km.

Strong Earthquake, Fiji
Monday, November 19th, 2007A strong, very deep earthquake struck near Fiji early this afternoon. The magnitude 6.3 quake was located 45 km south of Ndoi Island Fiji at a depth of 550 km. The earthquake, which struck at 1:52 p.m. New Zealand Daylight Time on Monday 19th November 2007, is the fourth quake to have struck the area in recent days.
A magnitude 4.3 quake struck to the north-east of Ndoi Island yesterday afternoon at 3:47 p.m. and a magnitude 4.8 quake struck to the south-east at 1:32 p.m. On November 17th (New Zealand time) a magnitude 4.9 quake struck to the south-west of the island. The three quakes were located within 360 km of Ndoi Island at depths between 160 and 480 km
