Eastern North Island Earthquakes

The third shallow earthquake to strike the eastern North Island in recent days woke some residents this morning.

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck 20 km north-west of Wairoa at 4:47 this morning. The quake, centred 20 km north-east of Raupunga (70 km south-west of Gisborne) was 40 km deep. It was felt from the Bay of Plenty to Hawke’s Bay.

Two earthquakes struck the eastern North Island on Tuesday. The first was a magnitude 4.3 event at 7:03 a.m. centred 40 km east of Havelock North at a depth of 20 km. This earthquake was felt at several locations in Hawke’s Bay.

Later in the day a magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck 30 km south-west of Gisborne (on the coast 20 km west of Wairoa) at a depth of 35 km. This event was felt locally.
