Earthquake Activity in South Pacific Back to Normal

Earthquake activity in the South Pacific has returned to normal levels during the past week according to data released by the US Geological Survey and GNS Science.

Earthquake activity in the area near Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga has been light with only 4 events in the past week compared with 7 last week, and 17 the previous week.

Earthquake activity in the Kermadec Islands has also reduced, with only 1 event in the past week, compared with 7 the week before.

Geonet advises that the level of Green Lake on Raoul Island volcano, where an eruption occurred on March 17th, has started falling. However, the volcanic alert level at Raoul remains at 2.
