Fiordland Quake

A moderately strong earthquake struck Fiordland this evening.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck 45 km west of Te Anau at 7:01 this evening. The quake was 81 km deep, according to GeoNet. The on-shore quake was felt throughout Otago, Fiordland and Southland.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake as magnitude 4.3, centred 34 km west-south-west of Te Anau, 120 km west-south-west of Queenstown, 122 km north-west of Invercargill, at a depth of 80 km.
