Strong Earthquake Near Vanuatu

A strong magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck near Vanuatu at 10:18 (NZST) this morning, according to data released by the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake was located 75 km ESE of Luganville, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu (215 km NNW of Port-Vila, Vanuatu) at a depth of 150 km.

Thirteen minutes later, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a bulletin indicating that the quake was magnitude 7.0 and stating that a Pacific-wide tsunami was unlikely based on historical data.
