Gentle rain this morning has carried Tawa’s rainfall figure for 2006 to over 1.2 metres.
The 6 mm of rain which fell between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. has carried Tawa’s rainfall for the year to date to 1204 mm. This is well above last year’s annual figure of 713 mm.
Monthly rainfall figures for 2006 have exceeded 2005 values during 8 months, with only January, May, September and December being wetter months in 2005.
The trend to a wetter year was set in March, when rainfall for the year to date began to consistently exceed last year. July, August and October were particularly wet, with more than seven times more rain falling during August compared with last year, highlighting the dry winter that was experienced in 2005.
Other private weather stations in the Wellington region have also recorded generous amounts of rain this year. To date, Mana has recorded 801 mm, Whitby 1211 mm, Johnsonville 1380 mm (since 19th February), Silverstream 1539 mm, Pinehaven 1551 mm, and Miramar 1286 mm.
