Strong Earthquake Near Fiji

A strong, deep earthquake struck to the east of Suva, Fiji just before 10 o’clock this morning.

The magnitude 6.2 earthquake, which struck at 9:52 a.m. on Tuesday January 9th 2007 (NZ Daylight Time), was centred 390 km east of Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji at a depth of 408 km.

Two other earthquakes have struck the area in recent days. A magnitude 4.6, 555 km deep quake struck 345 km east of Suva on the 8th. It was preceded by a magnitude 4.5 event at a depth of 457 km located 480 km east-south-east of Suva on the 6th.
