Moderate earthquakes have struck near Vanuatu and Tonga in the past 24 hours.
A magnitude 5.0 quake struck near Tonga at 4:36 p.m. (NZDT) yesterday. The 50 km deep event struck 550 km NNE of Nuku’Alofa, Tonga.
It was followed by a magnitude 5.7 quake near Vanuatu which struck at 6:16 this morning, NZDT. The 191 km deep quake was located 529 km NNW of Port Vila, Vanuatu.
