A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck near Lake Taupo this evening. The 100 km-deep quake, which struck at 5:42 p.m. on the 12th of July 2007 was located 10 km east of Taupo.
The quake was felt in Wellington, Palmerston North, Hawke’s Bay and at Kawerau and Ohope in the Bay of Plenty.
