Quakes Near Lake Taupo

Another moderately strong deep earthquake has struck near Lake Taupo.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck 20 km south-east of Taupo at 7:03 this morning, Saturday 29th December 2007. The 80 km deep quake was felt at many North Island locations from the Bay of Plenty to Wellington.

A magnitude 5.5 quake at a depth of 120 km struck near the southern shore of Lake Taupo (50 km south-west of Taupo) near Turangi at 9:07 on Thursday night.
