Another Deep Quake Near Rotorua

Another deep quake struck near Rotorua overnight.

The magnitude 5.2 quake, which struck at 3:14 a.m. on Saturday the 15th of November 2008, was located 10 km south of Rotorua at a depth of 160 km. The 7 reports of the event filed by the public show that the quake was felt in Hawke’s Bay and Wellington.

A similar-sized quake was recorded nearby on election night, when a magnitude 5.4 event struck just before 1 a.m. on Sunday November 9th at a depth of 200km, 20km west of Rotorua.

On the 19th of October a magnitude 5.6 earthquake, also 200 km deep, struck 20 km north of Rotorua.
