Southern Kermadec Quake

A shallow moderately strong earthquake struck the southern Kermadec Islands early this morning.

The magnitude 5.3 earthquake, which struck at 3:08 a.m., was located 205 km south-west of L’Esperance Rock (635 km north-east of Auckland) at a depth of 35 km.
