Strong Quake, Kermadecs

A strong, shallow, undersea earthquake struck the northern Kermadec Islands yesterday afternoon.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck 265 km north-north-east of Raoul Island, 1335 km north-east of Auckland, at 4:46 p.m. yesterday afternoon. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake was 24 km deep.

Geoscience Australia reports the quake as magnitude 5.9 and estimates that it would have been felt up to 400 km from the epicentre.
