Kermadec Quake

A moderately strong undersea earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands this morning.

Saturday 13th November 2010

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck 120 km south-east of Raoul Island (220 km north-east of L’Esperance Rock) at 10:17 this morning, New Zealand Daylight Time. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake as only 1 km deep, but notes that this is only an approximation.

A deeper magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck 70 km north-west of Raoul Island at a depth of 152 km early on the morning of Thursday November 11th.
