Southern Kermadec Quake

A moderately strong earthquake struck the southern Kermadec Islands late last night.

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the central Kermadec Islands at 22:19 on Wednesday the 8th of December New Zealand Daylight Time. The magnitude 5.5 quake was centred 380 km south-south-west of Raoul Island at a depth of 50 km according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

GeoNet did not report the event.

Geoscience Australia reports the earthquake as magnitude 5.2 at a depth of 35 km. Their projection map shows that it would have been felt up to 200 km from the epicentre.
